A little note from me

Having your photograph taken can feel a little daunting. Believe me, I know that feeling!

That's why my portrait sessions are never about perfect poses or knowing what to do in front of a camera.

We will take our time, enjoy the outdoors, have a chat and let things happen naturally. There's no pressure to be anyone other than yourself.

For me, photography has always been about connection, with people, with nature and sometimes with ourselves.

More than anything, I want you to enjoy the experience and come away with photographs that feel like you. Perhaps even see yourself through slightly kinder eyes.

There’s something about the Highlands that I find difficult to put into words. Although I’ve just spent ten photographs trying! I have spent so much time amongst these mountains over the years, often with my camera in hand, and yet they never seem to lose their hold on me. They’ve been a place of discovery, a place to heal, and somewhere I’ve gone when I’ve needed to make sense of things. I’ve arrived feeling all sorts of emotions, sometimes excited, sometimes exhausted, sometimes with far too much on my mind. But I don’t think I’ve ever left without taking something new away with me. And then there are the people. Some wonderful souls have crossed my path here. People with their own stories, their own reasons for coming, and their own connection to this extraordinary place. Sharing those moments with them has become one of the things I love most about what I do. My photographs are always an attempt to capture not just the beauty of the Highlands, but the feeling of being here. The freedom, the romance, the stillness, the sense of being alive. And truthfully, I don’t think I’ve ever quite managed it. Perhaps that’s why I keep coming back, camera in hand, hoping that one day I might.... but maybe some things are simply meant to be felt rather than captured. This is Leila. 📸. At the start of our shoot, she was worrying about her hair. Stressing about what she was wearing. Telling me which angles she didn’t like her face from. At one point she even apologised for her body. Once the camera was in full swing. We created a scene. We all giggled like teenagers. We made things up as we went along. We went a little bit witchy, a little bit forest nymph, and completely embraced the weirdness of it all. And LOOK AT HER. 😍 This is WHY portrait photography makes me ridiculously happy. Giving a person space to forget about all the things they think they need to hide for a while and showing them what I can see. Leila is funny, warm, gorgeous company and completely herself. I love September. 🍂 The light changes. The Highlands start turning gold. There’s still a little heather hanging on and everything just feels a bit... different. And apparently, September is also the month when I decide to change things. 😂 I’ve always blamed that on it being my birthday month. My own slightly wonky version of New Year, which I rather over-described in my last post but I do wonder if there’s something about September itself. Summer is ending, autumn is arriving, everything around us is shifting colour and somehow change doesn’t feel quite so daunting when nature is busy doing it too. These are some of the lovely humans who’ve found themselves in front of my camera around this time of year. Different people, different stories, different days... and some VERY different Scottish weather! This September, I can feel that familiar little burst of energy again.
