My heart belongs to
The Auld Romantics
“To love beauty is to see light.”
A Highland Beginning
Our journey began amidst the breathtaking Scottish Highlands, where fate brought us together after a time of personal upheaval. That meeting didn’t just change our lives, it shaped a shared sense of purpose and ignited a quiet but insistent passion: To create art that breathes with the heart of Scotland, its wildness, warmth and the sense of belonging it awakens.
It was behind the lens where Kristy found her voice, photographing locals and visitors against the wild romance of the Scottish landscape. Supported by Richard, and what began as creative passion, quickly grew into a full-time calling. Many of those brief moments shared during portrait sessions blossomed into lasting friendships, reminders that art and nature connect us, often in unexpected ways.
Then came the stillness of 2020. As the world held its breath, so too did the shoots. But rather than stop, we adapted, searching for new ways to share that feeling of soul, place and connection whilst still continuing to create. And in that quiet, we began to understand what we were always meant to do.
This isn’t just a business.
It’s a way of living.
Full of light and colour.
“Our art is a way of life, not just a product. ”
Our Creative Life
We are deeply inspired by beauty and feeling, our work is shaped by the great art movements that placed emotion at the centre: the Romantics, the Pre-Raphaelites, the Impressionists. In a world spinning fast with technology and noise, we find refuge, and revolution, in art that slows you down and makes you feel.
The camera is our starting point, a way of capturing stories of longing, love and belonging. That visual language often extends into digital illustration, mixed media and our heartfelt handmade pieces that support our vision.
Colour plays a vital role in everything we create, just as it did in the movements we draw from ~ a way of translating emotion into something seen, felt and remembered.
Art, for us, is not a luxury. It is how we make sense of the world and how we breathe.
This space reflects that life ~ through environmental portraiture, meaningful crafts and handmade pieces, to our upcoming art collection and the early steps of something deeper.
The Auld Romantics is built on emotion and artistic resilience.
“My heart is like a singing bird…”
